Raw Meat

You should avoid Raw seafood and undercooked beef or poultry. Because of the increased risk of contamination with coliform bacteria, salmonella, and toxoplasmosis.

Deli Meat

`        Deli meats can contain listeria, which is really risky for pregnant women and can lead to miscarriages. Listeria has the ability to cross the placenta and can infect the developing baby. It could also lead to infection or blood poisoning and may also be life-threatening. If you are pregnant and you want to eating deli meats, make sure that you expose the meat to heat until it is steaming.

Fish with Mercury

During pregnancy, you should avoid fish that contain a high amount of mercury. Consumption of Mercury during pregnancy can lead to the developmental delays and can cause brain damage.

A sample of these types of fish includes shark, swordfish, king mackerel, and tilefish. Preserved, chunk light tuna generally has a lower amount of mercury than other tuna, but you should still eat it in moderate amount.

You should also avoid particular types of fish that are present in sushi due to their high levels of mercury.

Smoked Seafood

A pregnant woman should also avoid chill seafood which are often labeled as lox, nova style, preserved because it can contain listeria. These are safe to eat as an ingredient in a meal that has been well cooked, such as a casserole. This type of fish is often present in the deli portion of your grocery store. Shelf-safe or preserve seafood is usually fit to eat.

Fish Exposed to Industrial Pollutant

You should also avoid fish from polluted lakes and rivers that may contain high levels of industrial polychlorinated biphenyls. Mainly people who fish in local lakes and streams should be aware of this danger. These fish include bluefish, striped bass, salmon, pike, trout, and walleye.

You better stay in touch with the local health department or Environmental Protection Agency to know which fish are safe to eat for you in your area.

Raw Eggs

You should avoid raw eggs or any foods that can contain raw eggs because of the possible exposure to salmonella. Some household Caesar dressings, homemade ice cream, mayonnaise, or custards or Hollandaise sauces are made with raw eggs. If you cook the recipe well, this will greatly reduce the exposure to salmonella. Factory-made ice cream, eggnog and dressings, is made with pasteurized eggs and are fit to eat

Restaurants should be using pasteurize eggs in any recipe that they make with raw eggs, such as dressings or Hollandaise sauce.

Soft Cheeses

you should avoid soft cheeses because it may contain listeria.  You need to avoid soft cheeses such as Camembert, brie, Roquefort, Gorgonzola, feta, and Mexican style cheeses like queso Blanco and queso fresco, unless they  from pasteurize milk. All other soft cheeses which are made with pasteurize milk are safe to eat.

Unpasteurized Milk

 A pregnant woman should avoid unpasteurized milk because it may contain listeria which is the most common cause of miscarriages. You should make sure to use pasteurize milk which is free from bacteria.

Pate 

Pate is another food that  you should avoid during pregnancy. Because refrigerated pate may contain the bacteria listeria. Preserved pate or shelf-safe meat spreads are generally safe to eat.

Caffeine

Although most studies show that caffeine intake in moderate amount is acceptable, but there are others that show that caffeine intake is greatly the cause of miscarriages.

During the first trimester, you should avoid caffeine to reduce the danger of a miscarriage. It is a general rule that caffeine should limit the amount of caffeine to fewer than 200 mg per day during pregnancy.

As caffeine is a diuretic, which means it helps to eliminate fluids from the body. it can result in water and calcium deficiency. It is very important that you are drinking plenty of water, juices, and milk in place of caffeinated drinks. Some research shows that consuming large amounts of caffeine can result in miscarriage, low birth weight, premature birth, and withdrawal symptoms in newborns. The safest thing is to avoid caffeine as much as you can.

Alcohol 

There is no amount of alcohol that is safe to use during pregnancy. Therefore you should completely avoid alcohol during pregnancy. Consuming even a very little amount of alcohol can interfere with the healthy development of the baby.

Depending on the amount, the pattern of use and timing, alcohol consumption during pregnancy can cause Fetal Alcohol Syndrome and a lot of developmental disorders.

You should also continue to avoid alcohol during breastfeeding. Exposure of alcohol to an infant can cause harmful risks, and alcohol can reach the baby during breastfeeding.

Unwashed Vegetables

Although Vegetables are safe, and a necessary portion of a well-balanced diet. However, it is essential to make sure to wash them well to avoid potential exposure to toxins and bacteria such as Toxoplasmosis. Toxoplasmosis can contaminate the soil where the vegetables grow.
